A free, easy to use software of concrete section analysis. It generates interaction diagrams of combined
axial-force/biaxial-bending for structural concrete sections under ACI 318-19(22)’s Chapter 22 hypothesis.
Developed in Python, ACSAHE is a free tool designed to address the often prohibitive cost of commercial software, specially in Latin American countries.
The primary objective in the field of Structural Engineering is to design
structures capable of resisting external loads—whether natural or anthropogenic
forces—while efficiently, stably, and safely transmitting them to the foundation
throughout their intended lifespan. In linear members such as beams or columns,
these external loads are translated into internal section forces that the
members must resist. The most common internal forces are
Axial Force and
Bending Moment, but determining their limits can be a complex task. This is precisely the challenge that ACSAHE addresses.
The determination of the strength of structural concrete members (reinforced or prestressed) subjected to Bending Moments and Axial Forces, requires solving non-linear equations, making hand calculations considerably complex.
As a consequence, Biaxial Bending – Axial Force Interaction Diagrams have been extensively used as a practical tool in the industry. In these diagrams, the axes represent the mentioned forces, and a contour of safe M, N combinations is depicted.
Interaction Diagrams normally limit themselves to particularly conventional cases (f.e. rectangular geometries, symmetric distribution of reinforcements, etc.), which is useful but does not allow for optimal designs or exploring the full potential of the materials used.
ACSAHE generates interaction diagrams of combined axial-force/biaxial-bending for structural concrete sections under ACI 318-19(22)’s Chapter 22 hypothesis. The tool offers users complete flexibility to explore and analyze all cross-section possibilities, including those with prestressed reinforcement.
Examples of different interaction diagrams obtained by ACSAHE
After being selected as Argentina’s sole representative for the international competition, ACSAHE was showcased at the Latin American Congress of Civil Engineering Students (COLEIC 2024), where it won first place among five pre-selected projects from different countries across LATAM. The selection was made by three distinguished judges from industry and academia. Both the written paper and the presentation were evaluated.
